Superstars Of Dance :: First Round

Group - Team Argentina
Up first, Los Huincas Gauchos. They incorporate a mix of dance styles as well as... weapons? Sweet. There are only three mustached guys in the group, two of which are playing drums, while the other looks like he's ready to tango with a bull. Well, I dig the drumming, but where's the dancing? Well I get the feeling these guys are a lame man's imitation of the monks! Apparently, the judges think so too.
Score: 48 (7-7-6-7-6-8-7)

Solo - Mythili Prakash, India
Very engaging dancing I say. Not quite my cup of tea, but I give props where props are due! The judges agree and reward her accordingly. Well... even though she sets "the standard", the standard isn't as "spectacular" as other styles!
Score: 58 (9-8-8-9-8-8-8)

Solo - Kelly Hendry, Ireland
Well, not quite so engaging but good nonetheless. Ballet clogging right? She was pretty good with that style.
Score: 56 (8-8-8-8-8-8)

Duo - Henry Byalikov & Giselle Peacock, Australia
Good looking couple with really good technique. They seems very... ferocious and not quite "human" when dancing with each other. Maybe ferocious is not the word, but that's the best I can come up with right now. Pretty interesting stuff.
Score: 56 (8-8-8-8-8-8-8)

Duo - Victor Da Silva & Claudia Savvides, South Africa
Good looking couple here. They sure do have some chemistry going on... Those lifts, they're pretty awesome! I thought it went well with the music.
Score: 59 (8-8-8-9-8-9-9)

Solo - Yang Yanan, China
One of the monks! Anything these guys do is sweet. That is all.
Score: 51 (8-7-7-7-7-7-8)

Solo - Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, USA
Now this is some tap dancing, not the crap we saw from the other guy. I really dig this stuff and can only imagine how much goes into tapping. I love it! Gregory Hines should have a talk with these judges.
Score: 55 (7-8-8-7-9-8-8)

Group - Team Russia
Pretty good stuff, especially the super human like acrobatics. Didn't I mention something earlier about people just joining gymnastics?
Score: 51 (7-7-7-7-8-7-8)

Group - Team India
Pretty exciting number. I think the cameramen need to get a better handle still. Looked really good though!
Score: 54 (7-8-7-9-8-7-8)

Solo - Mamela Nyamza, South Africa
Great. Spoken word turned into dance. I hate it.
Score: 58 (9-8-9-8-8-8-8)

Solo - Miriam Larici, Argentina
Ah, the better half of the duet. Pretty cool idea and I enjoyed it as well. Can't really say much more, I mean everyone of these dancers are good!!
Score: 57 (8-8-8-8-8-9-8)

Duo - Damien O'Kane & Bernadette Flynn, Ireland
Damien looks like he's trying to be more of a magician than a dancer in this routine. Bernadette looks very good though. I enjoyed it.
Score: 58 (8-8-8-8-8-9-9)

Duo - Zhen Zhu Zheng & An Nan, China
Gymnastics. Cirque Du Soleil. These people are insane. So are the judges for the scores!
Score: 53 (7-7-7-8-8-7-9)

India and China duos are fired!!

Solo - Maria Kochetkova, Russia
Looked great. Good ballet number.
Score: 63 (9-9-9-9-9-9-9)

Solo - Reed Luplau, Australia
I just don't like the contemporary dances. I can see the guy is great, but I just don't dig it!
Score: 65 (9-10-9-9-9-10-9)

I'm glad the popper made it through. Everyone else deserved to be fired!

Group - Team USA
Really great backstory behind the routine. Great routine with Steven even doing some popping. I loved very second of it!
Score: 67 (9-9-10-10-9-10-10)

Argentina and Russia, you're fired!

Superstars Of Dance :: The Premiere :: Short Recap

Group - Team Ireland
Flateley's old crew starting everything off... No pressure there. A big group of about 20 or so dancers with a Flatley look-alike, complete with frosted tips. Pretty decent, if you like this type of thing...
Score: 65 (10-9-9-9-10-9-9)

Solo - Robert Muraine, USA
The popper from "So You Think You Can Dance" is back, and as wavy and tangly (is that a word?) as ever. I think the guy is pretty amazing and what he does is pretty unique. Apprently the judges aren't into "pretty unique" or "amazing" and give him so-so scores.
Score: 57 (8-7-9-9-8-8-8)

Solo - Carolina Cerisola, Argentina
Some sort of Jazzy Cabaretish (is that a word also?) type of thing. Nice outfit, nice legs, nice routine.
Score: 58 (8-8-7-9-9-9-8)

Duo - Pasha Kovalev & Anya Garnis, Russia
Some Samba to some interesting music. Refreshing! Weren't they on "So You Think You Can Dance?" as well?
Score: 64 (8-9-9-9-10-10-9)

Duo - Nishi Munshi & Sangita Sanyal, India
Ok, I'm kind of tiring of the camera people here. I want to see the DUO and not a SOLO. What is wrong with these guys? Not totally N'Sync, but pretty decent. Ouch, the South African judge threw them under the bus... Deserved? Maybe he could have put it a little more nicely...
Score: 51 (9-7-6-7-7-8-7)

Solo - Sean Robinson, Australia
Gregory Hines? Not quite, but good enough. That is all.
Score: 57 (9-8-8-8-8-8-8)

Solo - Bei Zheng, China
Ribbon could be a deadly weapon you know? These judges should realize that with the scores they gave her.
Score: 51 (8-7-7-7-8-7-7)

Group - Team South Africa
Totally reminds me of Stomp. This was my favorite of the night, with me being a fan of Stomp and all...
Score: 57 (8-8-9-8-8-8-8)

Group - Team Australia
Pretty wild stuff going on here. I thought it was pretty flashy and hip. Did I just say hip? Maybe I should say phat. No? Ok, it was cool.
Score: 57 (9-8-9-8-7-8-8)

Solo - Damien O'Kane, Team Ireland
These type of dancers sure are getting hooked up tonight...
Score: 58 (9-9-8-7-8-8-9)

Solo - Sduduzo Ka-Mbili, South Africa
Sometimes I wonder if some people should've just gone into gymnastics. I mean come on, this is pretty cool.
Score: 55 (8-8-7-9-7-8-8)

Duo - Georgia Amabarian & Eric Luna, USA
So, sometimes I wonder if some people should've just gone into gymnastics. I mean come on, this is pretty cool. I couldn't think of anything else to say to this!
Score: 57 (7-9-7-7-10-9-8)

Duo - Miriam Larici & Leonardo Barrionuevo, Argentina
Is it me or does it seem like that girl can really move the dude is a stiff above the waist? I don't know, not like I could do any of this stuff, but that girl can move!
Score: 65 (9-9-10-10-9-9-9)

Solo - Julia Bantner, Russia
Very expressive and "poetic". Not my thing, nor very "superstar" like.
Score: 50 (7-7-7-7-7-8-7)

Solo - Amrapali Ambegaokar, India
Anyone who was a principal in a Cirque Du Soliel is a superstar in my book already. 15 spins, all in the same spot, on the heel? OKAAaaayyy, I would throw up after 4 spins. Awesome.
Score: 62 (9-9-8-9-9-9-9)

Group - Team China
It's a group of Shaolin Monks that I'm sure everyone wanted to watch this show for. Ya, they're pretty badass. I mean could you imagine kicking somebody's butt with such style? You tell me the next time you see a monk balances himself on four pointy spears. Please. Tell me. These guys just need to go kick the Irish judge in the balls - gracefully, of course.
Score: 66 (9-9-10-10-10-9-9)

Assorted Bits & Pieces:
Pretty solid show. I thought I would only enjoy the Shaolin Monks, but ended up pleasantly surprised by the variety of groups and dance style presented in the show. The camerawork definitely could have been better, but you still got the feeling that ya, these people can dance! I would have to say those monks did not disappoint and as of now, they are the premiere's superstars of dance. Can't wait to see more!
