Superstars Of Dance :: The Premiere :: Short Recap

Group - Team Ireland
Flateley's old crew starting everything off... No pressure there. A big group of about 20 or so dancers with a Flatley look-alike, complete with frosted tips. Pretty decent, if you like this type of thing...
Score: 65 (10-9-9-9-10-9-9)

Solo - Robert Muraine, USA
The popper from "So You Think You Can Dance" is back, and as wavy and tangly (is that a word?) as ever. I think the guy is pretty amazing and what he does is pretty unique. Apprently the judges aren't into "pretty unique" or "amazing" and give him so-so scores.
Score: 57 (8-7-9-9-8-8-8)

Solo - Carolina Cerisola, Argentina
Some sort of Jazzy Cabaretish (is that a word also?) type of thing. Nice outfit, nice legs, nice routine.
Score: 58 (8-8-7-9-9-9-8)

Duo - Pasha Kovalev & Anya Garnis, Russia
Some Samba to some interesting music. Refreshing! Weren't they on "So You Think You Can Dance?" as well?
Score: 64 (8-9-9-9-10-10-9)

Duo - Nishi Munshi & Sangita Sanyal, India
Ok, I'm kind of tiring of the camera people here. I want to see the DUO and not a SOLO. What is wrong with these guys? Not totally N'Sync, but pretty decent. Ouch, the South African judge threw them under the bus... Deserved? Maybe he could have put it a little more nicely...
Score: 51 (9-7-6-7-7-8-7)

Solo - Sean Robinson, Australia
Gregory Hines? Not quite, but good enough. That is all.
Score: 57 (9-8-8-8-8-8-8)

Solo - Bei Zheng, China
Ribbon could be a deadly weapon you know? These judges should realize that with the scores they gave her.
Score: 51 (8-7-7-7-8-7-7)

Group - Team South Africa
Totally reminds me of Stomp. This was my favorite of the night, with me being a fan of Stomp and all...
Score: 57 (8-8-9-8-8-8-8)

Group - Team Australia
Pretty wild stuff going on here. I thought it was pretty flashy and hip. Did I just say hip? Maybe I should say phat. No? Ok, it was cool.
Score: 57 (9-8-9-8-7-8-8)

Solo - Damien O'Kane, Team Ireland
These type of dancers sure are getting hooked up tonight...
Score: 58 (9-9-8-7-8-8-9)

Solo - Sduduzo Ka-Mbili, South Africa
Sometimes I wonder if some people should've just gone into gymnastics. I mean come on, this is pretty cool.
Score: 55 (8-8-7-9-7-8-8)

Duo - Georgia Amabarian & Eric Luna, USA
So, sometimes I wonder if some people should've just gone into gymnastics. I mean come on, this is pretty cool. I couldn't think of anything else to say to this!
Score: 57 (7-9-7-7-10-9-8)

Duo - Miriam Larici & Leonardo Barrionuevo, Argentina
Is it me or does it seem like that girl can really move the dude is a stiff above the waist? I don't know, not like I could do any of this stuff, but that girl can move!
Score: 65 (9-9-10-10-9-9-9)

Solo - Julia Bantner, Russia
Very expressive and "poetic". Not my thing, nor very "superstar" like.
Score: 50 (7-7-7-7-7-8-7)

Solo - Amrapali Ambegaokar, India
Anyone who was a principal in a Cirque Du Soliel is a superstar in my book already. 15 spins, all in the same spot, on the heel? OKAAaaayyy, I would throw up after 4 spins. Awesome.
Score: 62 (9-9-8-9-9-9-9)

Group - Team China
It's a group of Shaolin Monks that I'm sure everyone wanted to watch this show for. Ya, they're pretty badass. I mean could you imagine kicking somebody's butt with such style? You tell me the next time you see a monk balances himself on four pointy spears. Please. Tell me. These guys just need to go kick the Irish judge in the balls - gracefully, of course.
Score: 66 (9-9-10-10-10-9-9)

Assorted Bits & Pieces:
Pretty solid show. I thought I would only enjoy the Shaolin Monks, but ended up pleasantly surprised by the variety of groups and dance style presented in the show. The camerawork definitely could have been better, but you still got the feeling that ya, these people can dance! I would have to say those monks did not disappoint and as of now, they are the premiere's superstars of dance. Can't wait to see more!
